This new course is the result of a project to find the perfect beginner instrument. Below is a short video to explain the concept.
We mostly use small classical guitars, adapted and restrung with just three strings. This simple set up enables beginners to
- build finger strength and dexterity
- build basic technique and tone
- navigate and understand a fingerboard
- play simple parts with complete confidence and fluency
If you would like to know more about the thinking behind the idea, here’s a pdf with more detail.
At the moment I am teaching Three Strings Attached classes to young beginners at Cambridgeshire Music in Histon, Cambs. But the real project is to inspire other teachers, and get more people to try this out. So all the learning materials are freely available online, and there’s a dedicated YouTube channel where you can find demo clips and pdfs for every piece in the course. You can even try the materials out using an ordinary 6-string guitar.
Do join in, and PLEASE get in touch to let me know how you get on!
