Solo performing

My various instruments (plectrum guitar, mandolin, ukulele and tenor guitar) are all acoustic and all lend themselves to performing Jazz Age material from the 1920s and 30s. I love this music, and enjoy recreating the sounds of the great guitarists such Eddie Lang and Nick Lucas.

If I am playing in the background, I tend to stick to the guitar and mix up the jazz pieces with ragtime, blues, and novelty numbers including arrangements of classical guitar pieces.

When playing to a listening audience, I try to switch instruments frequently to create more variety, and add some singing into the mix. If it is appropriate to the gig, I can talk quite a lot about the music as I introduce it.
